Jaggery is great for the human body but only till the time it is consumed in a limit. As the excess of it might prove problematic for the body. Being a natural sweetener it is helpful for the body. However, it may lead to a number of health problems if it is not pure or adulterated. So, here are some of the disadvantages of eating jaggery in an excess amount.

1. May lead to weight gain
Though jaggery is good for the body, if you eat it in an excess amount, it might lead to weight gain. It will increase the calorie count and eventually leads to weight gain.

2. Raises blood sugar level
Those who have diabetes or at the risk of diabetes must not consume jaggery in excess. It may lead to a rise in the level of blood sugar. Around 9 grams of jaggery work exactly like what the sugar does to the body. So, avoid it!

3. May cause constipation
Excess consumption of jaggery might also lead to indigestion and constipation. The newly and freshly prepared jaggery increases the risk of constipation in the body.

4. Leads to parasitic infection
Jaggery often is impure until it is refined and cleaned properly. Gur is prepared under unhygienic conditions and might have microbes and bacteria as well. Thus, it might lead to parasitic infection.

5. Can cause allergy
In some cases, people develop a food allergy. A runny nose, cold, cough, nausea, headache vomiting, etc. are some of the allergies that can happen due to excess consumption of Gur.
