You may be surprised to know that there are many people out there suffering from some kind of thyroid disorder and they don't even know about it. They like to think it's their fatigue, stress and work which is giving them headaches. Well it's time you check for these symptoms yourself to rule out whether you have a thyroid condition or not.
Fatigue is one of the most vital symptoms of thyroid disorder. If you are feeling fatigued in the middle of the day even without working a lot or feel sleepy all the time, it's time to go for a check up. This could be because of an overactive thyroid which can lead to insomnia due to rapid pulse.
2. DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS
If you have been suffering from constipation or diarrhoea for quite some time it could be because of the thyroid. Gas, flatulence and even bloating are indicators of the disease. The changes in the hormone level production can affect the digestive processes.
3. WEIGHT CHANGES
The thyroid gland regulates metabolism of the body. If you find it almost impossible to gain or lose weight despite several efforts, you may have hypothyroidism. On the other hand, people who have hyperthyroidism may lose weight because it increases the rate of metabolism in them.
4. BREATHING PROBLEMS
You might find this little strange but certain foods like soy, nuts and even cabbage can slow thyroid function causing breathing problems. Thus, if you find difficulty in breathing while eating such foods, know that it is time to head for a check-up.
If you are feeling unusually depressed or sad, it could be due to less production of thyroid hormone. Too much thyroid hormone causes anxiety or panic attacks. Hormones play a vital role in bodily functions and can affect mental functions as well.
Goiter is the enlargement of the thyroid gland. It develops when the thyroid disorder develops to an advanced stage causing swelling, lump or discomfort in the neck. It can occur both in hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism. If you notice lump or swelling in the neck, instead of ignoring it, seek medical help.
7. HEART RATE
Accelerated heart beat even when you are not excited can be another symptom you should look out for as it indicates thyroid too. Lower levels of thyroid causes your heart to beat slower than normal.
8. LOSS OF APPETITE
Another most common symptom of thyroid is loss of appetite. People with thyroid disease don't feel like eating even if they are losing or gaining weight.
